Kay A. Van Pelt (Willenbrink) Van Pelt was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 13, 1958. She attended Washington High School in Washington, Missouri, where she participated in Speech. She was her school's representative to Missouri Girl's state in 1975.
Education
She received her Bachelor of Arts in Public Affairs Reporting in 1980 from the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she graduated cum laude and with honors. She is a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.
She received her Juris Doctor Degree in 1983 fromt he University of Missouri, Columbia Law School. She was named to the Dean's Honor Roll. She was named to The Missouri Law Review in 1983. She authored "The Standard of Reliablilty for Declarations Against Penal Interest in Missouri" 48 University of Missouri, Columbia Law Review 3, Summer 1984. She received an American Jurisprudence Award for excellent achievement in the study of evidence law in 1983. She received an Academic Achievement in Law Award for Tort Law. She received an Academic Acheivement in Law Award for Employment Discrimination.
Experience
She was Law Clerk to the Honorable James K. Prewitt, Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District in 1983. She bacame a shareholder in 1984 in the Professional Corporation of Van Pelt and Van Pelt, P.C., with F. Richard Van Pelt.
Achievements/Associations
Listed in Missouri/Kansas Super Lawyers each year since 2007. She has been named a Fellow of American Academy of Adoption Attorneys. She is a member of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar association and the Missouri Bar Association. She was elected Secretary of the Greene County Bar Association in 1988. She was elected Treasurer of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association in 1996.
She formerly served on the Parish Council at Immaculate Conception, Church.
She formerly taught in the Legal Assistant Program at Drury College. She is the past Chairman of the Drury College Advisory Board for Legal Assistant Studies.
